still, my soul be still

After a very busy weekend, in which we celebrated family and worked together to throw a fantastic wedding party, I drove home from Tallahassee in a bit of a fog. I wasn't able to write this weekend and not having that time made me acutely aware of how writing is a centering practice for me. It's where I begin to hash out things before the Lord and listen for His voice. I felt a bit unanchored this weekend without this. On my way home yesterday, I popped in some music of my dad's and this song encouraged my heart. Keith and Kristyn Getty are lovely songwriters - modern hymnists who convey beautifully the realities of our Lord and the gospel. Let it be an encouragement to yours as you start this week - that you would settle your soul in His presence, contented that He is the Lord of peace even in times of upheaval and weariness.

Still my soul be still
And do not fear
Though winds of change may rage tomorrow
 God is at your side
No longer dread
The fires of unexpected sorrow

God You are my God
And I will trust in You and not be shaken
Lord of peace renew
A steadfast spirit within me
To rest in You alone

Still my soul be still
Do not be moved
By lesser lights and fleeting shadows
Hold onto His ways
With shield of faith
Against temptations flaming arrows

Still my soul be still
Do not forsake
The Truth you learned in the beginning
Wait upon the Lord
And hope will rise As stars appear when day is dimming
