praying the Psalms: Psalm 103
Bless the Lord, o my soul…
Soul?... Soul?... Do you hear me Soul?I said, bless the Lord.
Have you forgotten what He's done for me? All that He has done? Did you forget the sacrifice of the Son? The holy Son? The only Holy One?
Let's take a second, Soul. Let's take a minute to remember all that He has done.
When I was in complete rebellion, When I was on the run, When I was His enemy - Do you remember what He delivered me from?
Do you remember that feeling, Soul? Do you remember the joy you felt when He made me whole?
Soul, bless the Lord!
I know, Soul, when I'm angry - it's hard. I know, Soul, when I'm tempted - it's hard. I know, Soul, when I've fallen - it's hard. I know, Soul, when I'm tired - it's hard.
But Soul, bless God. Bless the Lord of hosts.
For He won the battle before it begun. Soul, can you remember what He has done?
Do you remember His forgiveness of sins? Do you remember the freedom you felt, in Him?
O Soul, do you remember Him?
Do you remember the tears you cried When imagining the Son of God on the cross as He died? And me, being the one who put Him there? The brokenness you felt, the feeling of despair -- But Jesus gave His life up for MY sin to bear.
Come on Soul, do you remember?
That liberating feeling, Soul, we were delivered.
Let's think about this, Soul:
What if He gave me what I deserved? What would all my righteous deeds be worth In the light of the sin I offered? Soul, how does that feel? To know exactly what His grace covered?
Soul, doesn't it sound absurd?
You know me best, Soul. You know my sin best, Soul. You know my struggles best, Soul. And Jesus knows it all and forgave anyways.
Aren't I blessed, Soul? Aren't we blessed, Soul?
He has cast my sin as far as the east is from the west, Soul. Does that give you rest, Soul?
Soul, I need you to listen to me - I know I can't control you, but by God you won't control me. He ripped me out of the pit and He made me free. I will bless the Lord with every breath that I breathe. And Soul, it is with you that I plead --
Bless the Lord with me.
